ITN To Launch New English Channel Called Prime TV On Thursday
Popular television channel ITN will launch a new English television channel on Thursday, November 12.
ITN Chairman Anura Siriwardane told that the birth of the two 24-hour English channels would signify a historic milestone in the country’s media sector, since such channels are seen as crucial elements to fulfill the present day needs of the country.
The official launch of Prime TV will take place at 10 am on Thursday followed by a colourful ceremony in the evening to mark the event at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Hall at BMICH.
“The terrestrial coverage of Prime TV will initially be aired in the Colombo and the suburbs but it will be seen island wide on Dialog TV. They are two complete Sri Lankan English channels. I am extremely indebted to President Mahinda Rajapksa for his fullest cooperation and blessings extended to us to make this mission a reality. I am also grateful to media ministers Anura Priyadasrshana Yapa and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana, the officials of the two ministries, viewers of ITN, all resource personnel and clients for helping us reach this position,” said the ITN chairman stressing that these new channels were started with funds purely earned by ITN and not through government money.
“I attribute all our achievements to the dedication and commitment of the dynamic, energetic and committed ITN staff members who have really rallied around me and given their fullest support to achieve these targets. The media has a major role to play in shaping the mindsets of the people. I think ITN is playing its role as a responsible media organization. We admit that each community should be treated with respect and dignity,” said Mr. Siriwardana.
