‘Tigo’ the new mobile experience in Sri Lanka has launched their ‘Millionaire Promotion’ to further promote their island wide coverage which now extends to all parts of the island.

“There has been an unprecedented response to our Millionaire Promotion and in fact we have had 35,000 customers responding in as little as 6 days [since its launch]”, said Tigo’s CEO Mr. Dumindra Ratnayaka.

Explaining the mechanics of this novel promotion, Mr. Ratnayaka said that all a Tigo customer had to do was SMS their name and address to the number 7272, whereupon there is an immediate acknowledgement of the respective Tigo user’s SMS.

“The lucky winner of our Millionaire Promotion will receive a cheque for Rs 1 million” said Mr. Ratnayaka.

Tigo’s Millionaire Promotion is being conducted in collaboration with Sirasa FM who at the end of the promotional period will randomely select 80 lucky Tigo customers from the received pool of SMS’.
“ Daily on weekdays, between 10.00 a.m. and 12 noon, the Sirasa FM DJ’s will call up the 80 selected Tigo customers and pose a question to them which pertains to Tigo’s coverage . The lucky 40 winners will then go on to the next round, until the Semi Final round where 10 Tigo customers will be short listed”.

Mr Ratnayaka said that at every stage Sirasa FM DJ’s will pose their questions between 10.00 a.m and 12 Noon [ on weekdays ], while all questions will centre on Tigo’s coverage.

“We want to demonstrate clearly to both Tigo users as well as non users that Tigo’s claim of island wide coverage is indeed justified, as will be amply demonstrated to anyone who tunes in to Sirasa FM during this period as there will be Tigo users who will be calling from far and wide across the country” said Mr Ratnayaka..

The final round will have 5 Tigo customers participating who will be invited to the Sirasa FM studio and will go on air live, while answering their question.

“The winner will be presented with a cheque for Rs 1 million by a Tigo representative who will be there, on the spot” said Mr. Ratnayaka.

The 80 participants too will not be forgotten by Tigo, as they too will be entitled to prizes amounting to Rs 500 worth of talk time, while the 40 who qualified for the next round will be entitled to Rs 1000 worth of talk time, the next qualifying 15 will be entitled to Rs1500 worth of talk time, while the final 4 [excluding the winner] will be provided with Rs 5000 worth of talk time.

“So really everyone’s a winner with Tigo while one lucky Tigo user has the opportunity of a lifetime to become a millionaire courtesy his or her preferred mobile network which is Tigo of course” .

According to Mr. Ratnayaka, Tigo will continue to provide customers with improved access, greater availability and enhanced affordability of mobile services, via the aspirational brand Tigo.
