Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel sponsors Hilton Colombo Residencies Fun Run
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Services Provider is yet again proud to be the main sponsor of the Hilton Colombo Residencies Fun Run 2008, to be held on November 23, 2008 at 9am. The main aim of the annual run is to bring together people from all walks of life to share in an experience of fun and appreciate the value of good health and fitness.
The event this year will add value by gathering funds which would be channeled to social causes such as the development of sports and nurture and harness of the athletic prowess and talent of disadvantaged children. Speaking on the involvement of the company, Suren J Amarasekera, CEO, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel said, "It brings me great pleasure to support this fantastic endeavour of promoting sports as well as the importance of having a balance between being both mentally and physically fit. We extend our deepest appreciation in having the opportunity of partnering with a brand such as the Hilton and hope that through endeavours such as these, our relationship goes from strength to strength."
The event is set to be colourful and exciting, with event categories including Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men over 45 years, Women over 45 years, Boys Under 15 years and Girls under 15 years. All events will start at 9am, but route distance will vary between 3km and 6km for under-15 and adults respectively.
Manesh Fernando, General Manager, Hilton Colombo Residencies said, "This is the sixth year that we are having our Fun Run Programme and we eagerly look forward to it being a complete success in terms of participation, as in previous years." Application forms are available at the Sports Centre of the Hilton Colombo Residencies. The entry fee per participant is Rs.450, which entitles the participant to a T- shirt and cap. All participants and their families will be hosted to a breakfast after the event at Hilton Colombo Residencies.
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Services Provider, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its fully- fledged 2.5G GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual band. In December 2007 the company launched its 3.5G HSPA network which is the first and only Super 3.5G network in South Asia. Investments committed to date in its 3.5G/2.5G networks and service offering totals over US$ 300 mn and is set to increase its base stations to 2000 by the end the first quarter of 2009.
