Arrow SLT to extend directory services to all telecom providers

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has taken initiatives to cross the boundaries and expand its directory services to others irrespective of the service provider and is well positioned as the National directory information and service provider. Without limiting information to the printed version, today the SLT directory with Rainbow Pages is accessible through different mediums such as Web, CD, Call Centre, and on Mobile phones.

SLT publishes provincial/district base directories and each customer is entitled to receive two directories namely; SLT National Business Directory and the SLT National Residential Directory. Recently introduced features to the printed directory are; Classifications in three languages, Full city names instead of abbreviations, Doctor Directory and Listings by areas.

"People did not like to refer the directory since it was too complicated to find the information that they want, but now we have made it straightforward. Over the past decade the directory was done by an international company and currently the Rainbow Pages directory is done by a Sri Lankan company as a 100 percent Sri Lankan brand. Through this, we have given the fullest boost to our printing industry as well", General Manager SLT; L. P. M. P. Balapitya noted at a media briefing held at the Hilton Colombo, on Tuesday.

"Earlier it was limited only for the SLT customers to get a directory, but now it has expanded to all with the use of internet. Directory information is available online to customers on our web site Welcome to SLT RAINBOW PAGES. Our web site includes search functions for more than 20,000 listings across 1,300 product and service classifications. This will be an ideal opportunity for advertisers given the large number of local and international visitors to the site", he said.

Tele-Rainbow is a 24 hour operator assisted service that will provide information on Rainbow Pages content. Is an enhanced directory service, which allows customers to simply dial a number and ask the operator for assistance in their preferred language. This is now open to mobile customers as well. Exclusively for Mobitel customers to access SLT Rainbow Pages information via a WAP enabled phone.

Knowledge on geographical locations is important information today for any person to make correct and cost effective decisions. A new value added service on Welcome to SLT RAINBOW PAGES allows the users to locate the exact location of the business on a user-friendly Online Digital Map.

"The SLT directory with Rainbow Pages has evolved into a comprehensive guide complete with socially valuable information. SLT customer base is over 10 million and what we want is to make everyone's life increasingly convenient and comfortable", Balapitiya highlighted.
