SLT Rainbow Pages now on your mobile
Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT) and its subsidiary SLT Publications (PVT) Ltd. launched the new SLT Rainbow Pages Directory towards a well-informed society going far beyond its traditional directory publications. SLT Publications (PVT) Ltd General Manager L.P.M.P. Balapitiya said, “SLT Rainbow Pages are stepping into a new dimension with multiple medium availability.”
With the aim of providing accessibility to information to all, the public will be able to gain access via their mobiles through the use of the 24 hour teleRainbow call centre, CD, or simply login to the website to search the number they want. Not only that, anyone can access SLT’s WAP mobile site version via a Mobitel connection. It was pointed out that this latest development was carried out with the aim of ensuring that every mobile user in Sri Lanka, irrespective of their service provider, will be able to gain access to information on the directory.
Commenting on the most significant feature of the Directory, Balapitiya said that the new online Geographical Information System implemented along with directory information and geographical information would indicate a satellite map and the direction for the exact location. The Online Digital Map will be available within another month and with SLT’s entry into the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) Services there will be an interactive video-enabled directory service that people could access while watching a movie or a television programme.
“Including mobile users, Sri Lanka has a 10 million telecom service penetration and anyone of them can access our directory service. As a result of our valued services there are so many options for an information seeker to access information. We are very happy to position our directory as a 100% locally owned and managed directory service and a 100% locally printed Sri Lankan Brand that has given a boost to local printing industry to develop our own economy. In time to come we would like to establish a recovering system for old directories if there is an interested party to venture out for a recycling plant. As from our perspective right now it is a very costly process at the moment for our company to do recycling,” said Deputy General Manager, Rainbow Pages, Ruwan Wijethunga.
SLT has provided the choice for everyone to collect their Directory by filling out a coupon at any of the SLT branches, SLT Teleshops and Cargills Food City Outlets islandwide. The company also expressed that they plan to expand their directory collection centres for 400 by the end February 2009.
