Arrow SLT grabs badminton championship

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the nation’s communication powerhouse won the overall championship award at the recently held inter-operator badminton tournament, which was held last Sunday at the Royal Complex, Colombo. This event was organized by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, for the third consecutive year, with the participation of all fixed-line and mobile operators.

The SLT badminton team carried away a host of awards, winning the Women’s Team event, the Mixed Doubles Open, Men’s Double Veterans, Women’s Doubles Veterans' and the Mixed Doubles Veterans'. The team was the first runner-up for the Men’s Team event. The first runners-up of the overall championship was Dialog, while the second runners-up was Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel.

The main objective behind this badminton tournament was to strengthen the relationship amongst all the telecommunication operators by bringing them together to compete in a friendly battle. This friendly encounter is the outcome of the togetherness of officials from both TRCSL sports associations and the representatives of all telecommunication operators.

Commenting on the significance of the tournament, Mr. Priyantha Kariyapperuma, Director General/TRCSL said, “I firmly believe that a tournament of this nature helps to merge business through sports, which is at the core of our complementary values and uniqueness that drive these organizations to do their absolute best. Most importantly, it helps in showing commitment to develop and strengthen relationships through sports as well as increasing the ability to face challenges in the industry”.

Adding further, Mr. L. P. M. P. Balapitiya, GM/ SLT Publications (Pvt) Ltd, and also the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for this tournament said, “This event was an excellent opportunity for all the telecommunication operators to meet and interact with each other in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We take great pride in actively supporting the strengthening and development of relationships through sports”.

Mr. Priyantha Kariyapperuma, Director General TRCSL, and Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson/ SLT, were present to distribute the awards to the winning teams and all CEOs' of the respective Telecommunication companies were also present at the awards ceremony.
