SLT - the Platinum Sponsor for National IT Conference 2008
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the nation's number one integrated communications service provider together with Mobitel, SLT’s mobile arm and SLT Visioncom, IP TV subsidiary, takes great pride in announcing its platinum sponsorship for the 26th National Information Technology Conference (NITC) 2008, one of the biggest Information Technology (IT) events in Sri Lanka.
The conference was organized by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) and was held yesterday and closing today at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. This year’s theme is ‘e-Inclusion for a Knowledge Economy,’ providing a forum to learn from industry visionaries as well as enabling networking with peers. It will also focus on ICT innovations and share knowledge amongst the ICT community. Amongst the areas discussed were E Governance, e-Inclusion in the Asian context, e-Inclusion through open source, Mobile communication for information rich society, strategies for promoting engagement in distance education and Delivering distance education using information technology: challenges and opportunities in Sri Lanka, etc.
Speaking on the significance of its platinum sponsorship, Ms. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom Group said, “We have taken the initiative in Sri Lanka to enhance the modern ICT network infrastructure throughout the nation to provide integrated services.
The communications industry is growing in leaps and bounds, and is in convergence with the IT industry. Due to this, the role of organizations such as CSSL helps operators, academics and vendors in communications and IT industries to work together towards a common goal to create a society of digital democracy.”
Mr. Suren J. Amarasekera, CEO of Mobitel said, “As the national ICT services provider, we have promoted exhibitions, conferences and conducted public seminars and workshops with the aim of improving e-literacy to help bridge the digital-divide. In that context, we believe that in the near future, we would come to a point where “Literacy is of use no longer, in the absence of e-literacy”. We believe that National IT Conference 2008 can play a vital role in creating awareness on such novel concepts like e-inclusion while this can only be realized through a greater level of e-literacy at a national scale.”
