Arrow Dialog TV to exceeds 150,000 subscribers

‘Dialog Satellite TV’ the entertainment arm of the Dialog Telekom announced yesterday that it was on course to achieving its main target of 150,000 subscribers by the end of the year.

Chief Executive Officer of DTV Nushad Perera told the Daily FT that this is a gigantic achievement for any industry and the company reached this target within its target range.“Innovation is the main ingredient in the recipe that we used to achieve this target. For that we deviated from the traditional approach and gave our subscribers what they want in real terms. Today we offer various segments that include movies, sports, entertainment and religion which have become the most demanded channel line up. We are also the first in the region to introduce Baby TV which has become a hit with more and more parents now requesting for this service,” Mr. Perera added.

According to Dialog TV, Baby TV has become a hit in households which have infants to 3 year old babies. The breakthrough of this channel is that it keeps on changing what it shows in every five minutes with bright colours without repetition. “The feed back from parents with children is immense. Before we launched this channel we did a survey and found that parents wanted to have a break. So we went in search of a channel that would calm down a child and at the same time give a break for the parents. It was at this stage that we found Baby TV which has been created by scientists specializing in infant care” Mr. Perera noted.

“On the other hand our innovation has also resulted in the introduction of religious segments which are considered a first in the world” the CEO said.

The Company also said that in order to provide its customers with a better quality of entertainment it has introduced latest MPEG-4 technology without passing any cost to its customers. “For that exercise we incurred a significant cost but our main priority was to give our customers the best,” Mr. Perera disclosed.

Speaking on Dialog TV’s expectations for the year 2009, the CEO said that next year will be the year that management of any company will be tested. It will be a time to see whether the management of the company really understand its consumers, Mr. Perera said.

Despite all things happening around you, you will still find people who go home and watch TV and therefore the necessity of updating the entertainment sector will be even greater. There will be more demand for real-time information, and it is there where we are set in by providing what the consumer wants” Mr. Perera concluded.
