Rajapakses buy Rivira and The Nation newspapers
(Lanka-e-News, 2008 March 06, 10.00 AM) Lanka-e-News learns that the Rivira Publications that publish Rivira, The Nation and Bottomline newspapers, belonged to a businessman called Sena Yakdehige has been sold to Sujith Rajapakse, a Sri Lankan businessman in UK without publicity.
Sujith alias Nilantha Rajapakse is a relative of President Mahinda Rajapakse and a close friend of President's son Namal Rajapakse.
The deal was sealed Tuesday (4) and Sujith Rajapakse had deposited Rs. 100 million in Saylan Bank Millenium Branch through a cheque numbered 574484. Lanka-e-News learns that Rivira Publications is due Rs. 103 million to National Development Bank.
Sujith Rajapakse is engaged in business in Beverly Street in London.
The other business partner of Rivira Publications is Darshana Jayaneththi, who was the Chairman of Janatha Estate Development Board during Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe was the Prime Minister. He is a close associate of Susantha Punchinilame who has crossed over to the government from UNP.
When Lanka-e-News enquired about the deal from The Nation editor-in-chief Lalith Alahakoon, he said that he was officially uninformed of it.
