Lankadeepa bagged four awards at the maiden Women’s Media Awards ceremony held on Monday at Colombo Hilton to felicitate women in media.
Lankadeepa Deputy Editor Indrani Peiris won the Best Woman Deputy Editor Award while senior journalist Dayaseeli Liyanage bagged the Best woman lobby Reporter award. Journalist Vinitha Gamage was chosen the Best Environment Journalist award and Sanjeevika Samaratunga won the Best Woman Journalist Conducting Interviews. The Daily Mirror won a special award for taking Sri Lankan media to a global level. Besides eleven senior women journalists were given away special awards in appreciation of their contribution to Sri Lankan media. Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa was the chief guest of the event while ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Sumedha Jayasena, A.H.M. Fowzie, Central Environment Authority Chairman Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman Asantha De Mel also attended the event. The Women’s Media Awards ceremony was jointly organized by the National Media Foundation, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Engineering and Construction, Colombo Hilton, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau and Maga Neguma Development Programme.
