Arrow SLT Buddhist Channel telecast on PEO TV

Sri Lanka Telecom in partnership with its subsidiary SLT VisionCom (Pvt) Ltd., launched the telecasting of the Buddhist channel on the Internet Protocol technology driven PEO TV, as part of its regular programming at an auspicious time.

The event was held on October 18, 2008 with Shri Sambodhi Viharadipathi Poojya Daranagama Kusaladhamma Himipanno, the Chairperson of the Buddhist Channel handing over the agreement to Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom and Mr. Thusha Weerasooriya, CEO, SLT VisionCom (Pvt) Ltd. To coincide with the launch of the Buddhist Channel on PEO TV, a blessing for the country took place with the attendance of over a 100 Buddhist priests with the inclusion of Maha Vihara Wansika Symopali Maha Nikaye Asgiri Parshawaye Maha Nayake, Aggamaha Panditha Atipoojya Udugama Shri Dharmmadissi Ratanapala Budhdarakkithabhidhana Maha Nayake. This was telecast live on the Buddhist Channel.

A procession for the Kathina Perahara from the IGP’s official residence to the Shri Samabodhi Maha Vihara took place. A ‘Kiri Ahara Pooja’ for a 100 Buddhist priests, which was under the patronage of Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Chairperson of the Shri Samabodhi Maha Vihara Dayaka Sabhawe was held at the temple. This was followed by a Sanghagatte Dhakshina in the afternoon, which was held by the Commander of the Navy and his staff for 150 priests.

The public had the opportunity to witness both of these events as they were telecast live through PEO TV on the Buddhist Channel.
